Delon as one man Show is amazing to watch but that kills the imagination to be one the top league of gangster movies. The story is much more brutal what gives the film an amazing flair especially through its many twists. Also the music just suits at times and as I said the cast makes me cry because the perfomances of the others totally lacking. But I had tons of fun in here. For mafia and Delon fans an absolute amazing Double Feature. French gangster week!This sequel is not nearly as enjoyable as the first Borsalino or The Sicilian Clan - Belmondo’s easygoing presence is sorely missed and this has very little of the period charm or playfulness of the original. Plus the plot is kind of low key dumb, with Delon up against an evil fascist super criminal who basically gives the Swank speech from McBain this one. But, if you want to see Alain Delon in full action hero mode, nattily dressed and taking out killers with a double barreled shotgun, you could do a lot worse. Plus, one of the rare instances where a thrown empty pistol is actually effective. Jacque Deray’s Borsalino 1970 was one of my favourite films as a teenager and my mates and I saw it several times during its long run in Brisbane cinemas. I also eventually had a VHS copy that used to get passed around. The film starred Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon as two two-bit gangsters, François Capella and Roch Siffredi, in 1930 Marseille who meet when they get into a physical fight over Lola Catherine Rouvel, but settle down into a bromance that sees them rise to the top of the city’s underworld. The film ends with Capella being gunned down by an unknown rival and Siffredi choosing to leave I saw it again around the turn of the… The company is minus Jean-Paul Belmondo, whose funeral opens the movie. Without him and the starry byplay it's a well-appointed but routine Delon-Deray action movie, with lots of gunplay plus a gruesome end for its main villain and a bit part for Anton Diffring and only occasional need for Claude Bolling's rollicking theme.
